The City of Milford’s contractor, Diamond Materials, of Newport, DE, will complete phase A-1 of the Airport Road Rehabilitation Project on Friday, October 27, 2017. Airport Road from DuPont Blvd (US 113) to Canterbury Road will remain open to traffic with a detour through the Milford Business Park via Mullet Run. Section A-2 between Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall and Bowman Road will be closed to traffic on Friday, October 27, 2017, and is expected to be closed through November 6, 2017. Access to the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall will be from the west (Canterbury Road). The rehabilitation of this section includes subbase repair, subbase paving, and drainage improvements.
Upon completion of all roadway subbase repair and drainage work, the surface will be milled and a final top coat of asphalt will be laid over the entire roadway, which will begin on November 6. During the milling and overlay process, one lane traffic will be maintained using flaggers. The milling and overlay will also include NE Tenth Street between DuPont Blvd (Route 113) and the first entrance into Wawa.
The overall project includes pavement base repair, drainage improvements and pavement overlay of approximately 1.4 miles of Airport Road between DuPont Boulevard (US 113) and Canterbury Road (DE 15). Work on the projected $2.4 million-dollar project is expected to be completed by December 1, 2017. The pavement base repair and drainage improvements will necessitate a full closure of the roadway during construction.
Upon completion of all roadway subbase repair and drainage work, a final top coat of asphalt will be laid over the entire roadway, which will occur between November 27 and December 1.
The sectional closures in the future are anticipated as follows:
Phase B – Between Delaware Veterans Blvd and Canterbury Road (for additional widening). Traffic during this phase will be directed to Bowman Road and to US 113 beginning November 6 through November 11.
