[ARCHIVED] Meadows at Shawnee Discolored Water Issues

The Public Works Department continues to investigate the issue of sporadic discolored water within the Meadows at Shawnee.   At the present time, the issue is isolated within the Meadows at Shawnee only.   We have investigated the possibility of broken water meters or cracked pipes, and to date have not located any problems.

With assistance from Delaware Rural Water Association, the Department is installing automatic flushers on several hydrants within the subdivision.   The flushers will operate on a time clock, and will flush lines at night, beginning around midnight.   They will flush through the night for the next several days and residents may see water on the roadway at night and early mornings.

Obviously, the situation is frustrating for residents, as it is for the Department.   We are eager to locate a possible source and resolve the issue.    Residents can assist us in the following ways:

1.         If you experience discolored water, please notify the Department at 302-422-1110 or email sellingsworth@milford-de.gov with the following information:

                        a.         Name, Address, and contact information

                        b.         Date and Time of when it was experienced

                        c.         Was it noticed with hot water or cold water?

                        d.         Do you have a hot water heater?

                        e.         Do you have an irrigation system?

2.         If you experience discolored water on the cold side, run a spigot for several minutes until water runs clear.  Often times an outdoor hose bib works best.

3.         If you experience discolored water on the hot side only and you have a hot water tank, you may have sediment within your tank.    You should fully flush your hot water tank.

We appreciate your patience and assistance as we continue to work to resolve the issue.
